How we rank

Each broker is scored from 1 to 10 on five areas: regulation (which regulators supervise which legal entity), fees and spreads, trading platforms, the range of markets, and support and funding options. The overall star rating is the average of these scores.

Regulation weighs most for us: a licence from the FCA, ASIC, CySEC or another top-tier regulator offers far stronger protection than an offshore registration. Facts are checked against each broker's website and the regulators' own registers, and the check date is shown in every review.

Frequently asked questions

How did you choose the top 25 forex brokers?

We combined the brokers our readers use most with the largest internationally regulated brokers, then scored each one on regulation, trading costs, platforms, markets and support. Facts are checked against the broker's website and the regulator's own register, and the date of the last check is shown in every review.

What is the safest type of forex broker?

A broker licensed by a top-tier regulator such as the FCA (UK), ASIC (Australia), CySEC (EU) or the NFA/CFTC (US) is safer than one licensed only offshore, because these regulators enforce client-money segregation and often compensation schemes. Check which legal entity your account would actually be opened with.

Which forex broker has the lowest spreads?

Raw or ECN accounts at brokers such as IC Markets, Pepperstone, Tickmill or FP Markets show spreads from 0.0 pips plus a fixed commission per lot. Standard accounts have no commission but wider spreads. Compare the “Spreads from” column and remember that average spreads are higher than the minimum.

What does leverage mean and how much should I use?

Leverage lets you open a position larger than your deposit, which magnifies both profits and losses. EU, UK and Australian retail clients are limited to 1:30 on major pairs; offshore entities offer much higher leverage. Beginners are better off with low leverage and small positions.

Are forex bonuses worth it?

A bonus can lower the cost of trying a broker, but the credit usually comes with trading-volume requirements and withdrawal rules. Top-tier regulators in the EU, UK and Australia do not allow bonuses for retail clients, so bonus offers come from brokers' international entities. Read the full terms before accepting one.

Risk warning: CFDs and forex are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Only trade with money you can afford to lose.
